Welcome to the Skills for Life Network E-News Update
We had expected a 'quiet' e-news update as we head towards the summer holidays, but instead we have a very busy edition, with a series of news items on a range of key developments around funding, strategy, initial teacher training grants and functional skills. You'll find all the news items below, but a couple of key points are:
Key Skills in Apprenticeship Frameworks will be extended until March 2011 to allow providers the choice of offering either Functional Skills or Key Skills in the interim. This is a temporary measure - see below for more information.
Major changes have been announced with regards to the funding of 16 -19 provision. FE Colleges, sixth form colleges and other training providers will be paid direct from the Young People's Learning Agency (YPLA) from August, with local authorities maintaining a strategic role in 16 -19 education.
