Citizen Maths expanded

The content of this free online course, which is aimed at adult learners and college students who have not yet achieved a Level 2 maths qualification, is being significantly expanded.

Citizen Maths targets several audiences, including students attending post-16 colleges and other learning providers in the FE and skills sector, and self-motivated individuals not connected with an education institution.

The new course content covers, from a mathematical point of view, the concepts of uncertainty and representation. The course was launched last year with material based on proportion.

Learning about each idea is supported by a mix of short video tutorials, practical exercises, and quizzes, all linked to real-life situations, such as the value of insurance, the meaning of cancer screening results, and the degree of uncertainty of the weather - all put together with the advice of current teachers of post-16 students.

The learning experience is shown from a learner's point of view in this video, a four-minute screencast.
