College Catch-up Funding and Remote Education
A survey of FE Colleges around lost learning, catch up tuition and remote learning in relation to the pandemic has revealed the impact on the education of young people and adults.
The survey, carried out by the Association of Colleges, found that 77% of 16-18-year olds are performing below normal expectations. Key recommendations arising from the survey are:
- To combat the effects of the pandemic, a guaranteed fully funded extra year of study should be offered if college leavers require it. This would require a bursary to enable students to participate.
- Additionally, students who are continuing study in college as well as those moving to college from school should be funded at the same rate as 16 and 17 year olds. This would mean removing the 17.5% fall in funding at 18 that currently exists.
