FE Teacher Training Bursaries

Newcastle College is currently accepting applications for FE teacher training courses with bursary support of up to £26000, with places being allocated on a first come first served basis.

The DfE has launched new bursaries for FE teaching for 2020/2021. These are for pre-service trainees, looking to teach maths, English, science, engineering, computing or SEND.

The bursary values by subject are:

  • maths, science, engineering, computing: £26,000
  • SEND: £15,000
  • English: £12,000

In order to be awarded a bursary, the trainee must be accepted onto an FE Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programme (minimum level 5 i.e. DET, Cert Ed or PGCE) and hold at least a level 3 qualification or appropriate professional experience related to their teaching subject.

There are also grants available for in-service trainees accepted onto an ITE programme and specialising in English, maths or SEND. The grants are worth £18,200 to the employer to cover the cost of the training and the release from teaching.
