In this edition of the update, we have information on the 'Making maths and English work for all' review. This review is seeking to gather the views of employers and stakeholders in the education and training sector on alternative routes to accredit skills in maths and English (equivalent to GCSE A*- C).  Two surveys are now open. Make sure you have your say - the surveys close on the 24th of February. See the article below for more details.

Making Britain Numerate (2nd Ed) and Making Britain Literate (2nd Ed) are two workbooks written to support learners (including ESOL learners) studying Functional Skills either as part of an apprenticeship or as stand-alone qualifications. The NCETM is preparing a series of one-day professional development courses for teachers, tutors and trainers working in all branches of the FE and Skills sector to increase the workforce’s capacity and confidence to teach mathematics courses up to Level 2.

Early years initial teacher training will be inspected for the first time
From April 2015 Ofsted will inspect early years initial teacher training providers which provide training for those working with children up to five years of age. This is part of a drive to help raise standards in nurseries and early years settings.
