The NCETM has produced a set of short films and guides to support teachers and trainers in the FE sector working with students who have not yet achieved a GCSE Grade C or equivalent qualification in maths.

The new selection of Galaxy Quick Reads will be published on the 4th of February 2016. Each short book is written by a best-selling author and can be found in bookshops, supermarkets and online, or can be borrowed from libraries across the country.

Closure of NRDC
The National Research and Development Centre for adult literacy, language and numeracy (NRDC) has now closed.

Community Language Tuition Fund announced
A new English language scheme aims to reach tens of thousands of the most isolated women and will be targeted to specific communities based on an ongoing review into segregation in England.

ETF launches Functional Skills Reform consultation
The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) has launched its consultation to review maths and English Functional Skills qualifications. The review was commissioned by the Skills Minister Nick Boles with the aim of proposing new qualifications better suited to the needs of industry, practitioners and learners in post-16 education.

Government outlines 2016-17 skills funding
The UK government has published a letter outlining priorities and funding for the Skills Funding Agency. The statutory entitlement to fully-funded English and maths to enable adults to progress up to Level 2 and achieve a GCSE in these subjects if they have not already done so will be maintained.
