In this edition of the update, we have news of an ESOL strategy for England and of online training available to you free of charge from Foundation Online Learning.

A reminder that an online survey has been launched to gather employers' views on the functional skills reform programme. The survey will be open until the 7th of April 2016 - do make sure you have your say and/or forward the information to employer organisations you may be working with.

A new look for Foundation Online Learning

A new look for Foundation Online Learning
Foundation Online Learning, the online learning hub from the Education and Training Foundation, has been redesigned to make it even easier for you to access a whole range of professional development and training. The resources are free of charge and include English and maths self-evaluation tools, and a course to help you improve the teaching of maths and English.

ESOL Strategy for England
In spring 2016 NATECLA will host a series of meetings to formulate a draft ESOL strategy for England - with a projected launch in September 2016.

Improving maths
The government will ask Professor Sir Adrian Smith to review how to improve the study of maths from 16 to 18.

Local areas to get more notice of SEND inspections
From May, Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission will inspect local areas' responsibilities to children and young people with SEND. Local areas will have a longer notice period of inspections so that parents and others have greater opportunity to contribute their views and experiences.

Maths and English Functional Skills Reform Programme update
