Digital Functional Skills - a progress update

Ofqual has published a progress update on the new Digital Functional Skills qualifications (DFSQs), with information on the status as at 13th July 2023 of the qualifications that awarding organisations are developing.

In March 2022 Ofqual published the rules against which they will regulate the new DFSQs. All new DFSQs have to go through a technical evaluation process before being made available to centres (schools, colleges and training providers) to deliver, to ensure that the qualifications are valid and fit for purpose.

Ofqual use a combination of subject and assessment experts to review the materials submitted by each awarding organisation against their rules. The materials include the specification and the sample assessments. Ofqual also consider issues such as level of demand, coverage of the Department for Education national standards, and the quality of the questions and the associated mark schemes. They also review the awarding organisation’s assessment strategy.
