Citizenship Materials for ESOL Learners – Autumn 2005 Workshops
Workshops were delivered between January and March 2005 across 9 English regions to introduce the learning materials pack to ESOL teachers.
A second phase of regional workshops is planned during October and November 2005 to introduce the ESOL Citizenship Learning Materials pack to ESOL teachers. There are 27 events in total across the 9 English regions and 4 events in Scotland and two events in Wales.
Each event is either a one day format for ESOL teachers or a half day format for ESOL managers, and will host a maximum of 30 delegates.
ESOL Teachers’ familiarisation workshop – Full Day
This one day workshop is designed for ESOL teachers and it will include useful, practical strategies for using the learning materials pack in the classroom. There will be an opportunity to share ideas with other teachers and to explore the best ways of teaching ESOL in a citizenship context to prepare learners for citizenship. Each delegate will receive a copy of the Citizenship Materials for ESOL learners pack.

ESOL Managers’ familiarisation workshop – Half Day
This half day workshop is designed for ESOL managers and experienced ESOL teachers. It will include an overview of the Government’s new citizenship requirements and how they impact on ESOL learners. There will be an introduction to the learning materials pack. There will be an opportunity to share ideas with other managers over lunch to explore the best ways of delivering ESOL in a citizenship context. Each delegate will receive a copy of the Citizenship Materials for ESOL learners pack.
