Excalibur is part of the Adult Learning Inspectorate (ALI) website and contains important information for providers on good practice.
One of the first Excalibur products launched at the beginning of the year was the Excalibur Good Practice Database. This has examples of good practice identified by inspectors. Photographs and videos are included in many of the examples. The database now stands at 90 examples that cover key issues, such as improving retention and achievement and working with employers. The idea is for providers to have easy access to ideas that can help them improve their provision.
There is now an update facility offering email alerts to tell providers when new examples appear on the database.
For Providers preparing for inspection or undertaking self-assessment, there is a Key Challenges section. This draws together some of the issues most frequently identified by inspectors across the different types of provision (work-based, learndirect, adult and community learning, Jobcentre Plus and Prisons).
Go to http://www.ali.gov.uk/goodpracticedb/frameset.asp to search the Good practice Database. You will find some sample Individual Learning Plan pro-forma under the Area 14 Foundation section.
