Skills for Life Network

An on-line resource that can be used to support Skills for Life learners who would like to explore how their town or village has changed in the last 200 years

The Great Britain Historical Geographical Information System is a unique digital collection of information about Britain’s localities as they have changed over time. Information comes from census reports, historical gazetteers, travellers’ tales and historic maps, assembled into a whole that is much more than the sum of its parts!

The Vision of Britain through Time web site, funded by the UK National Lottery, has been created to make this resource available on-line to everyone, presenting information graphically and cartographically. The site presents the history of Great Britain through places. It could be of particular interest to practitioners working with numeracy learners, as there are lots of opportunities for using and developing Handling Data skills. Go to www.visionofbritain.org.uk and take a look!
