Plans confirmed for summer exams

The government and Ofqual have confirmed contingency plans in the event that exams planned next summer are unable to take place.

Following consultation, the regulator has outlined a number of its decisions which includes the potential for three assessment periods for centres should Teacher Assessed Grades be required again. To help minimise workload burdens on teachers and students, Ofqual has also published guidance for teachers on how they should collect evidence of students’ work during the academic year. This guidance reflects feedback from teachers and school leaders to make it as clear and helpful as possible.

Exams are planned with adaptations next summer to recognise disruption to education during the pandemic and maximise fairness for students. These include a choice of topics in some GCSE exams and advance information on the focus of other exams to help students’ revision.
