The VIA Survey of Character Strengths is a free self-assessment that aims to help you identify and understand your top qualities.
Background
The study of character strengths started in the early 2000s, and led to the development of the VIA Classification of Character Strengths and Virtues (Peterson & Seligman, 2004), a classification of positive traits in human beings.
The VIA Survey was developed as a way of enabling people to identify the positive aspects of their personality so that they can apply and develop these.
Character Strengths
We possess all 24 character strengths in different degrees, giving each of us a unique character strengths profile. Example strengths are: creativity, zest, perseverance, honesty, self-regulation, teamwork, kindness and social intelligence.
Research shows that understanding and applying our strengths can increase confidence and happiness, and help us strengthen relationships, manage problems, reduce stress levels, accomplish goals, build meaning and purpose and improve our performance at work.
