PLUS resources to support young people at risk of re-offending

The PLUS strategy resources are now available for purchase from the Basic Skills Agency website

The PLUS Strategy is the Youth Justice Board’s literacy and numeracy strategy for young people at risk of re-offending. Central to the strategy is a range of high-quality PLUS enrichment resources.

The PLUS resources are used by a wide range of practitioners, including Teachers, Learning Support Assistants, Education Workers in Youth Offending Teams, Prison Officers, Youth Workers and Arts practitioners working on projects with young people. The materials are being used in a variety of settings across the country, including schools, Further Education colleges, Learning Support Units (LSUs), Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), Youth Offending Teams (YOTs), Intensive Supervision and Surveillance Programmes (ISSP), Young Offender Institutions (YOIs) and Secure Training Centres (STCs). PLUS materials are to be used with young people at risk of offending or re-offending.

Learners using the PLUS resources will generally be those who have low levels of attainment in literacy and numeracy and subsequently need to increase their skills so that they access education, training and employment opportunities. The PLUS materials are age, ability and interest appropriate. The target age range is 12 to 18 years old.

The PLUS materials can now be purchased directly from theBasic Skills Agency’s Online Shop Simply run a Keyword Search for PLUS to locate the materials. The materials remain free of charge to Youth Offending Teams, Youth Offending Institutions and Intensive Supervision and Surveillance Programmes (ISSPs).
