The Evaluation of the Functional Skills Pilot Summative Report is now available

The report, which is now available to download, concludes that functional skills qualifications are expected to improve learners’ skills in English, ICT and mathematics, and that their impact on attainment in associated learning programmes such as Apprenticeship frameworks and Foundation Learning is likely to be significant.

The functional skills pilot finished in August 2010. The learning from the pilot has helped to inform the development of the new functional skills qualifications, accredited by Ofqual, which have been available since September 2010. The evaluation examined the impact of the introduction of functional skills into pilot centres and the ability of the functional skills qualifications, and their associated assessments, to meet the needs of all learners that will need to access them.
