Mentor Training Day
at the Teaching Development Centre, Newcastle College Thursday 11th Dec 12pm – 4pm,

This is a FREE event funded by Success North Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training.

The event is for those acting as a mentor, or as a prospective mentor for a current students at the Teaching Development Centre at Newcastle College, and the training can form part of your annual CPD requirement.

CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) – the internationally Cambridge ESOL recognised certificate

New four week full time intensive course, summer 09

Who this course is for?
The course is aimed at people who are interested in teaching English to speakers of other languages, in Britain or abroad.

It is an initial training course designed to provide candidates with the technical skills and experience to embark upon their first jobs or for those keen to change career.

The qualification will enable you to work in the private sector in Britain and abroad as well fulfilling the initial entry requirement for those who wish to progress onto the DTE(E)LLS and teach ESOL in the Lifelong Learning sector.

Course Content

  • The course covers all aspects of English language teaching, including:
  • Observation of experienced teachers
  • Development of language awareness and its practical applications
  • Preparing and planning skills and language lessons
  • Developing class management skills
  • Learner training and the role of the teacher
  • Self-assessment and reflective teaching
  • Personal and professional development
