Newcastle College has part time CELTA and TAQA courses starting in January/ February 2022. These courses are ideal for those who want to gain new skills and knowledge but have work and study commitments.
CELTA: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
CELTA is the most internationally recognised qualification for teaching English to speakers of other languages. This part time programme runs from February until June on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday evenings. You may want to teach abroad before going onto further study or employment, or perhaps you are looking for a career change and new challenge. For this course, you should have a real interest in language and how it works, be patient, resilient and enjoy working with people. As part of the course you will be taught in small groups and replicate real teaching practice to develop your skills and knowledge of teaching. A key aspect of the course is giving feedback to your classmates as well as receiving it, all to help you to become a well-rounded teaching practitioner.
An Advanced Learner Loan, covering a substantial proportion of the course fee, is available for CELTA.
TAQA (Training, Assessment, Quality Assurance)
TAQA at level 3 is perfect if you have a strong vocational subject knowledge and want to become an assessor: this can be student or employee focused. You will be an experienced practitioner and want to use this experience to be an effective assessor. You might teaching at the moment and are looking for a new career direction and challenge. You will be organised, have excellent attention to detail and be methodical in approach. You will be a team player and a good communicator and enjoy working with people.
TAQA at level 4 is for those working as qualified assessors who want to move into verifying. To undertake this course, you will have excellent subject knowledge of the vocational area you are working in and be passionate about achievement and improving standards. You will enjoy working with people, be organised, have a strong work ethic and be fair and methodical in your approach.
There is an Advanced Learner Loan available for TAQA qualifications, conditional on which units of the course you study, which a can cover most of the course fee.
