University of Teesside Skills for Life Collection

Skills for Life Network

The University of Teesside has launched its Skills for Life Resource Collection

Skills for Life Resource Collection

The ‘Skills for Life Resource Collection’ has been funded by the Learning and Skills Council Tees Valley to enable teachers, student teachers, support workers and volunteers to have access to high quality resources to support them in their studies and work.

This Collection brings together, for the first time in the North East of England, a comprehensive selection of books, CD ROMs, audio and video tapes, research papers, journals and equipment related to the teaching of adult literacy, language and numeracy.

The majority of items, including audio and video tapes, are shelved on Floor 2 of the Learning Resource Centre (LRC), interfiled with other education material. Journals will also be on Floor 2 but with other journals at J374 located towards the back of the building. Some CD ROMS are available from the Standalone PC or networked PC situated near the Information Desk and Catalogue Point on Floor 2.

The Collection is available as reference to everyone interested in furthering the Government’s Skills for Life Strategy. In addition many of the items may be borrowed by students on courses at the University of Teesside.

The LRC has facilities to play audio and video tapes. Machines are available on Floors 1, 2 and 3. CD ROM drives are available on each of the PCs. Please note that in all cases, users will need to provide their own headphones. Please enquire at the Service Counter.

Users may refer to the printed list in Resources to see what is in the Collection or, alternatively, they can use The Catalogue – the LRC’s online catalogue. Dedicated Catalogue Points are available on all Floors of the LRC. The Catalogue can also be accessed from the Library and Information Services home page at www.tees.ac.uk/lis. For convenience, a sub-catalogue has been created so that users can select the Skills for Life collection and limit their search to that material.
