Communities Scotland is driving forward developments in Scotland to improve levels of literacy, language and numeracy

If you are curious to find out what is happening in Scotland then visit the website for Communities Scotland.

“Communities Scotland is a Scottish Executive agency. Our aim is to work with others to ensure decent housing and strong communities across Scotland.”

Work on improving levels of basic skills sits within the Learning Connections section of Communities Scotland as the Scottish Executive sees that it is important to raise levels of basic skills in order to develop communities.

In Scotland the term ‘adult literacies’ is used to cover adult literacy, language and numeracy and is defined as: “The ability to read, write and use numeracy, to handle information, to express ideas and opinions, to make decisions and solve problems, as family members, workers, citizens and lifelong learners.”
