Word Games on the Web

Fun on-line word games that can be used to support word level skills development

A selection of on-line word games can be accessed on the East of the Web website. The following may be appropriate for your learners if they are working at Level 1 Literacy or above. They are essentially on-line versions of well known word games, such as word searches and anagrams. Take a look and see what you think!

Word Search – an on-line version, with a range of topics, including The Simpsons, Star Wars, the weather, great novels, short stories and animals.

Definetime – where you are given a word and four alternative definitions, only one of which is correct. You have to choose the correct definition by clicking on it. If you get it right you win 10 points and will move on to the next word. Get it wrong and you loose 5 points and must keep trying until you choose the correct definition. You have two minutes to score as many points as possible.

Eight letters in search of a word – where you gain points by creating words from the selection of eight letters given to you on-screen. Longer words give more points!
