The Citizen Literacy programme is designed to help adults to improve their reading and writing skills, and offers free learning resources including an innovative learner web app.

Citizen Literacy is a wholly independent Community Interest Company (CIC) a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping improve adult literacy in the English language, based and registered in Scotland. The programme was designed by a team including ccConsultancy. You can read more about how it was developed here.

Multiply online maths resources

If you’re aged 19 and over and don’t have maths GCSE at grade C (or equivalent), you can access free maths resources and courses through Multiply to build your confidence with numbers and gain a qualification.

LearnEnglish is a website for adult learners of English that offers a free English test to help you find your level, along with free lessons and resources.

This resource, inspired by work carried out by HMP Kirklevington Grange and HMP Haverigg, provides innovative learning approaches to encourage and support the development of maths and English in Prison Work and Training.
