International review programme: adult basic skills development

This literature review looks at how adults’ basic skills can be improved through family, workbased and flexible learning. It also looks at two specific components within basic skills: financial capability and employability skills. A programme report, leaflet, conference paper, discussion paper and presentation slides are now available to download.

ESOL Case Studies

ESOL case studies showing effective practice in Scotland can now be viewed on the ESOL Scotland website. These 18 case studies have been chosen as examples of effective practice in the provision and delivery of ESOL in Scotland.

Skills for Life and The Spending Review

The Government will continue to support basic skills provision in order to ensure individuals are given the chance to gain basic numeracy and literacy skills. However, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) funding for people not in settled communities will be abolished in 2012.
